SPL Hockey
Shakopee Youth Hockey Association and Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association are proud to announce the creation of SPL Hockey, a joint girls hockey program launching for the 2025-26 season.
This strategic collaboration unites two strong hockey communities to address challenges, such as declining enrollment and limited player pools, while providing more opportunities for girls to play competitive hockey close to home.
The SPL merger will:
- Create full, competitive teams at all levels (10U–15U)
- Enhance player development through unified coaching and training plans
- Promote growth with joint marketing, recruitment events, and community outreach
- Foster a larger, more vibrant community of female athletes and families
The merged program will be reviewed annually, with the long-term goal of ensuring each association can viably support their own girls’ hockey programs. A three-year plan has been established:
- Year 1: Stabilize – Field full teams, build a unified culture, and launch recruitment initiatives
- Year 2: Grow – Increase enrollment by 10–15%, deepen community ties, and enhance coaching resources
- Year 3: Reassess – Evaluate enrollment, financial viability, and readiness to return to independent programs
